"Just Wade a Moment"
This bull moose (Alces alces) wades across the Gros Ventre River in Grand Teton National Park. I had watched him for a long time as he browsed across the river inland, and most of the time, the moments were uninspiring, photographically. I followed him up river about 100 yards and the images the scene produced were "documentation shots," at best.
With light waning, I had contemplated many times to just put my camera away and pack it up so as to move on to more interesting subjects before the day's end---but, my inner sense kept telling me to just "wait a moment." So I did. I waited and waited...and all of a sudden the moose moved onto the river bank directly across from where I was standing! I watched him as he carefully plodded through the rocks and fast-moving current--and kept his direction right toward mine. I was safely upon a bluff so as to not be in tanger (and I was still a good distance away, using my 500mm lens), but his movements made for beautiful photography in exquisite late-day light.
I titled this image, "Just Wade a Moment," because I truly did wait many moments--and ultimately this wading moose gave me one of my favorite images of the trip to Grand Teton National Park.
