"A Pied that Glides" Taken near Phoenix, Arizona, this little Pied-Billed Grebe got spooked by another bird that came in for a landing close by (off camera). I happened to catch this action moment as he literally glided across the water to get out of the way, FAST! :) I LOVE the expression on his face! ©2012 Lisa Langell Photography. All Rights Reserved.
"Showing Off" This Male Anna's Hummingbird sat glistening in the sun today in Gilbert, Arizona. He was doing a courting dance for a nearby female. The males turn their head back and forth and position themselves in the sun in such a way as to reflect the ruby color in their iridescent gorgets. The Male Anna's hummingbird also does a high-flight hover over the female (15-25 feet or so), then does a high-speed vertical drop and swoops at the last second, making its tail feathers "chirp" when he comes out of the dive. The females love it (so to the photographers!) ©2011 Langell Photography, LLC. All Rights Reserved.
