7:30 amĀ CattleĀ Drive
We will head out to the ranch’s back 40 to photograph a cattle drive as the cowboys move the herd across the range. This is a true working-ranch scenario, offering excellent storytelling opportunities that showcase the relationship between horse, rider, and cattle.
Participants can expect dust, movement, and changing light as the sun rises, creating ideal conditions for backlit images, silhouettes, and action shots. This session is about capturing authentic moments, from wide environmental scenes to tight action and detail shots.
Lisa will provide guidance before we begin, and staff will be available to help with positioning and camera settings. Shooting locations will be managed so participants have clear views while maintaining a safe and respectful distance from the cattle and horses.
Recommended Lenses: Mid-range, wide and long (24-70mm, 70–200mm, 100-500mm)
Tip: Be ready for action and quick adjustments as the drive unfolds.
Models: Duncan, JD, Luke, Rycke, Jenna, Bonnie

Example Moments to Watch For
The images below show the types of moments and compositions that often stand out during cattle drive. Use them as inspiration, not a checklist. Every run is different, and the best images often come from anticipating action, watching light and dust, and being ready for genuine moments as they unfold.
Look for storytelling, emotion, and the relationship between horse, rider, and cattle. Small details can be just as powerful as big action.
